Students spend a lot of time in classrooms and it’s estimated that the majority of this time is spent trying to comprehend their teachers’ and classmates’ speech. Environments where it is difficult to hear can lead to students becoming disconnected and struggling to focus. This in turn can impact their cognitive development, reduce learning out comes and cause behavioral issues. To this end, the acoustic environment is now regarded internationally as one of the prime considerations in the design of new classroom facilities.

Esperance Senior High School in WA, through builder Barna Constructions, recently installed a Bildspec Series 100 Rw42 Centre Stacking Operable Wall between two classrooms to assist the creation of a larger, higher-quality learning environment for Year 12 students. When engaged, these folding doors improve the acoustic integrity of each of the two learning spaces. Operable walls are acoustic folding doors that are often used to offer flexibility and adaptability where teachers/lecturers can provide opportunities for student engagement.

The folding door was specified by H&H Architects with fixed sweep seals top and bottom and finished with Vitreous Enamel Whiteboards and Autex Composition 10mm Beehive.
